Hey! I’m Vanessa, college student pursuing her undergraduate education at The U, studying Advertising and Graphic Design. I have always expressed interest in style, beauty, and magazine publications. I’ve loved magazines since YM: Your Magazine in 2003. After the publication ended, I found solace in Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and Cosmo! Girl. Over the years I developed new connections to other magazines including Glamour and Elle while exploring some interest in publications like Essence and Vogue. I read, absorbed the messages, and spread the information to my friends. The next month I would grab yet another glossy cover from the rack, anticipating more new and exciting information.
But as I have gotten older, I’ve gotten better at critiquing my beloved magazines and understanding the limitations of their messages. I noticed that magazines offer the same repetitive information, sometimes lacking in variety and creativity. Being a young, black, intelligent person, I also noticed that my unique issues and interests were underrepresented or improperly represented in the magazine world.
TheStreetFashionista.com is my mission to create and operate my own online publication with my personal and creative vision that rectifies the limitations of the traditional magazines I admire. TheStreetFashionista.com offers advice, entertainment, insight, and information about style, beauty, health, business, school, work, and other aspects of the lives of young women, from my perspective and through research.
My goal is that TheStreetFashionista.com becomes a powerful, well-respected, and valued publication that reaches millions worldwide.
